Willie George Harris, born in Macon County, Tuskegee, Alabama on December 26th, 2025 “entered into the presence of the Lord”. 

He was a devoted follower of “Christ,” and “faithful” servant of the Lord.”

Willie George Harris will be reunited in “Heaven” with both parents, Willie Jay and Jimmie Lois Harris and his Brother, Edward Harris, and his Sister, Diane Lois Harris and his son Oliver Williams.

Willie G Harris- EARLY LIFE

As a teenager, Willie, along with his brother Edward, helped his mother with farm activities in Tuskegee while his father worked in the North to supplement the family’s income. These early years shaped his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. Willie George recalls his grandfather Harris being an inspiration to his self entrepreneurial spirit he showed later in life. And he shared memories of his maternal grandparents, Papa and Momma Strong. He also cherished time spent with his father, especially going hunting for rabbits and searching together for the perfect Christmas tree and holly these memories and more that remained dear to him throughout his life.

He attended Chehaw and Lewis Adams Elementary Schools and graduated from Tuskegee Institute High School. Later went on to The Mopar® Career Automotive Program, and he was an excellent 16-wheeler driver, skilled professional and managing complex logistics and large machinery to keep America's supply chain moving throughout Chicago, Illinois.

Interests, Passions, and Joys

Willie had a lifelong fascination with automobiles and annually took his children and grandchildren to the Chicago Auto Show and the Chicago Raceway. His sisters fondly recalled his love of roller skating—something his children later discovered with delight.

Known for his impeccable sense of style, Willie was famous for his sharp suits and polished appearance. One sister affectionately described him as a “true master of space and organization,” especially when packing a moving van. An excellent road driver, he traveled confidently across states well into his later years.

Family adventures were central to his joy—traveling by RV for Thanksgiving trips to Tuskegee, Alabama, and sharing vacations with cousin Delores (Oliver) Baker and family at Jellystone Park in Indiana. He deeply valued country living, family togetherness, respect for elders, and meaningful connection.

While working with Gilbert & Nelson Trucking Company, Willie often took his eldest children, Russell and Yolanda, along on deliveries throughout Chicago—moments filled with laughter, learning, and generosity. Russell fondly shared, “The best part of my dad’s life was giving him sisters and a brother.”

Willie proudly supported Sheldon throughout his athletic career and celebrated Diane’s achievement of earning her CDL and driving a school bus alongside her brother Russell.

Cherished Memories

He found joy in hanging elaborate Christmas lights, celebrating July fireworks, attending North Chicago family reunions, and capturing precious moments on his 8mm video camera—later splicing VHS tapes for everyone to enjoy. His stories, warmth, and presence left lasting impressions wherever he traveled—from Chicago to Atlanta, Las Vegas, Battle Creek, and beyond. To Willie, strangers quickly became family.

Hospitality and Heart

Willie was known for his exceptional cooking and hospitality. His famous oven-baked ribs were so tender that everyone—young and old—could enjoy them. His bread pudding brought people together, turning meals into moments of reconnection. Family time around the table was sacred, filled with laughter, storytelling, and love.

Affectionately known as “Grandpa” or “Pops,” Willie had a rare gift for making everyone feel welcomed and valued. His kindness, generosity, and grace will be deeply missed.

Faith and Service

Willie’s faith journey began at Midway Baptist Church in Tuskegee, Alabama, where he was baptized. A God-fearing man, he later served faithfully as a Deacon, exemplifying quiet leadership, integrity, and unwavering devotion.

He was nominated and elected by the congregation of Logos Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois, serving honorably as a Deacon for over 30 years.  He held strong to becoming a  tested, blameless, and spirit-filled servant holding firmly to Baptist doctrine.

His extended church family included:

Final Reflections

As his children, we thank everyone who loved, supported, and shared life with our father—including spouses, significant others, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Willie will also be welcomed in Heaven by Betty Martin. He sends special love to Pamela Martin (niece) and Marvin Cantrell (son-in-law). With heartfelt dedication, we honor his last surviving sister-in-law, Romie Jean Harris, and all aunts, uncles, cousins, and ancestors who preceded him in death.

Willie George Harris now rests peacefully in the arms of his Savior. In His light, we find comfort.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Additional details will be shared by the family when available.
