Willie Belle Smith

Willie Belle Smith, a beloved mother and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, in Brooklyn, New York, at the age of 98.

Born on October 25, 1926, in Oriental, North Carolina, Willie lived a life marked by kindness and warmth. She is survived by five children: Carolyn Jones and her son, Joshua, Nina Jones, Sheila Jones and her son, Andrew, Christine Jones and her children, Javon, Jamal, and Jordan, and Jimmy Jones and his children, Jackie, Jordan, and James Jr. Her love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life.

Willie had a passion for Scrabble and found joy in immersing herself in crime novels and women’s literature. She was also known for her culinary talents, delighting loved ones with her signature dishes such as fried chicken, scrambled eggs, fried fish, collard greens, and sweet potato pie. Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting aromas of these specialties and the laughter of those she held dear.

Willie’s kindness touched all who knew her. Her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to her family and friends.

May her legacy of love and generosity continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
