Archie's obituary
Willie Archie Lee Allen, 77, of King St., Pottstown, died Saturday, March 9, 2023, at Tower Health Phoenixville Hospital. Born March 20, 1946, in Stem, NC, he was the son of the late Thomas Allen Sr. and Mary Willie Cooper Allen. He was a graduate of GC Hawley High School in Creedmoor, NC.
Growing up, Archie was energetic, adventurous and daring. He loved working on the farm and never shied away from manual labor. He was athletic and played multiple sports, including baseball and basketball. He also loved swing dancing, especially with his sisters Minnie Pearl and Shirley. Archie enlisted into the U.S. Army on September 2, 1965 as a member of the 82d Airborne Division. As a member of the 82d Airborne Division, Archie earned his parachutist wings and recorded 48 jumps during his enlistment. He was honorably discharged on September 1, 1967. After being discharged from the Army, Archie moved to Pottstown, following his sister Willie Bea. He worked at the Firestone Tire Company, Pottstown, and the former Stanley G. Flagg Co., Pottstown. In his younger years, before falling ill, he was an avid fisherman and loved being by the water. He loved listening to music and watching his shows on afternoon TV. He was always surrounded by his friends, who knew him as “Pop”, and he never hesitated to help a friend in need. He will be missed by us all.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory daughters, Ingrid Olvera and her husband Carlos, Pottstown and Sheena Allen, Birdsboro; sons, Jacob Weaver, Pottstown, Jermane Karpinski, Pottstown and Brian Allen, Lititz; 5 sisters, Geraldine June (Franklin) of Mitchellville, MD, Lucy Sanford (John William) of Butner, NC, Minnie Vinson of Lancaster, PA , Shirley Allen of Mitchellville, MD, Virginia Ruffin of York, PA; 2 brothers, Bobby Allen of Oxford, NC , Thomas Allen, Jr (Helen) of South Hill, VA, 1 brother-in-law, Willie Thorpe , Jr. of Pottstown, PA (late Willie Bea Thorpe); his former wife, Jackie Allen, Pottstown; 11 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Laila Star Allen, brothers Neal Lawrence Allen and William Allen; and a sister, Willie Bea Thorpe (Allen).
Viewing will be held on Saturday, March 23rd 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Bethel Community Church of Pottstown (575 N Keim St, Pottstown, PA 19464). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 23rd 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location. The military honors will be held on Saturday, March 23rd 2024 at 1:00 PM at 44 E. Arcadia Dr, Limerick, PA 19468.
