David's obituary
William "David" Varner, Jr., age 80, gained his heavenly wings on November 10, 2025 after a long and valiant health battle. He was a treasured resident of Los Angeles for 53 years.
David was born on January 31, 1945 to W.D. and Estelle Varner in Santa Barbara, CA. After graduating from Santa Barbara High School in 1963, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served in the Vietnam War. After his military service, he continued his dedication to the public by serving as a Los Angeles County peace officer until his retirement in 2004. His commitment to service is a testament to his courage and dedication.
David had an outgoing and fun-loving spirit. His legacy is one of kindness and the importance of friends and family, values he held dear throughout his life. These qualities permeated every aspect of his conduct and interactions, making him a beacon of positivity and love in the lives of others everyone who knew him.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Myrlene Montgomery. He is survived by his son Jamad Varner (Mercedes) of Nevada, niece, Seredi Dixon (Lee) of Maryland, nephew Akele Montgomery (Brandi) of Maryland, grandchildren Jeremiah, Jamad Jr., and Jamaya, grand-nephews Jimon Crawford, Adonis Dixon, and Ayden Montgomery, grand-nieces Maia Dixon and Bailey Montgomery, and a multitude of cherished family and friends. His absence will be deeply felt, but his memory and the impact of his good deeds will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he left behind.
A memorial service in honor of David's life and legacy will be held on December 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Angelus Funeral Home, 3875 South Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90008.
