William (Will) Santiago, 58, of Hartford, Connecticut passed away on February 23, 2022. Will was born on May 9, 1963 in Lackawanna, New York, spent his childhood in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and established himself as a family man in Hartford, Connecticut.

Will valued family and community above all. If it meant helping someone in need, he would drop everything he was doing to show up for them fully. Creating memories, going on adventures, and experiencing life to its fullest were more important to Will than anything material. He loved the outdoors. Camping trips, beach days, and boat rides were some of his most cherished moments with family.

Professionally, Will worked as a mechanical engineer. He was highly intelligent and a continuous learner. He enjoyed building things with his own two hands. Will had an immense passion for sports both as a fan and an athlete. Some of his favorites were baseball, basketball, football, and volleyball. His vibrant sense of humor was constant.

Will is survived by his mother Esther Quiles and his sons Derek Santiago (and Nydia), Lucas Santiago, and Andre Santiago. He also leaves behind two grandchildren Arya and Azai Santiago Roman. In addition to his sons, he served as an influential father figure to many nieces and nephews in his extended family. He also leaves behind his brothers Miguel Hernandez, Eddie Hernandez, Carmelo Hernandez, Jose Hernandez, and Luis Rodriguez.

Will is preceded by his father Teofilo Santiago and three sisters Lillian Hernandez, Luz Minerva Santiago, and Gloria Marie “Maritza” Santiago.

Will was a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend. It is a tragedy that his time on Earth was cut short. He will be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered at one of his favorite beaches. On a later date when the New England weather is warm, his sons plan to host a Celebration of Life event for loved ones to honor Will’s memory.
