William A. Ruocco of Springfield, NJ - October 6, 1929 – June 14, 2025
William A. Ruocco, 95, of Springfield, NJ, passed away on June 14, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Angelo and Anna Ruocco, Bill graduated from Lafayette High School and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in 1952 – while working full-time and newly married. A talented athlete in his youth, Bill was proud to be one of the Lafayette soccer champions of Brooklyn in 1946.
Bill had a long and distinguished 46 year career with Allen Bradley (now Rockwell Automation), where he was a respected Electrical Engineer and Senior Account Manager. In the early 1960s, he and a colleague created one of the earliest speakerphone prototypes, reflecting his gift for problem-solving and innovation.
A committed civic leader, he dedicated over 40 years to public service. His political achievements included 15 years on the Springfield Township Committee, serving as Mayor in 1973 and 1983, Deputy Mayor in 1975, Planning Board Chairman, Police & Fire Commissioner, Finance Chairman, Springfield Republican County Committee, Commissioner & Chairman of Union County Utilities Authority and more.
His public service contributions extended to organizations such as AMICO (Charter Member, President, & Treasurer) and UNICO (President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer). Bill was the recipient of many honors for his steadfast commitment to community and civic life. Bill supported & donated to numerous charities with quiet generosity.
Bill enjoyed fishing, gourmet cooking, traveling (especially Italy), summers in the Hamptons, reading, history, sports, music and theater.
Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Jane (1994), his second wife, Marisa (2025) and his sister, Fortune Scaraglino (2014). He is survived by daughters: Jane M. Ruocco (Richard Eakins), Lori Wrobel (Bruce), Joanne Ruocco (Alice Wickham); stepdaughter Leucotea Monti (Marco), step-granddaughter Laura and many nieces and nephews.
Bill’s legacy of service, generosity, and integrity lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
