William leaves behind a loving family who were incredibly significant in his life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Yvonne Galarza, his cherished daughter and son-in-law, Brooke and Robert Pappas, doting granddaughters Stella and Francesca Pappas, supportive step-sons Miguel Vidal and Elliot Galarza, and caring soon to be daughter-in-law, Nieves Quintana. William also leaves behind his siblings, Joseph Ruback, Faye Gessin, Anna DiNuzzo, and Donna Dorcean. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Zora Ruback.
A celebration of William's life will be held on October 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM at 2175 S Ocean Blvd. It will be an opportunity for those who loved him to come together to share memories and anecdotes, of which there are plenty.
William was a proud fan of the NY Giants, Rangers, and the Mets and never missed out on the opportunity to cheer them on. He frequently enjoyed watching sports with his friends and family and was a regular gym-goer. To relax, he loved spending time at the beach and his favorite local spot, Benny's On The Beach with his dog, Mia at his side.
William was a man of substance, strength, and resilience. He carried with him a daring spirit that pushed him to persevere in the face of many difficult times. He never backed down from a fight, whether it was covid, cancer, or political. His life advice was practical yet profound; he encouraged everyone to be a leader rather than a follower. He never wanted fear to stop his loved ones from pursuing their dreams. Any obstacle could always be overcome. Among his many accomplishments, earning his master's degree, teaching later in life, marrying the love of his life, and maintaining sobriety for over 20 years stand out. Above all, he was most proud of his family. He consistently showed up to support his granddaughters. He was always at Stella's shows and never missed an opportunity to watch Francesca play ice hockey. Being a grandfather alongside his wife, "Lala", was his pride and joy.
William's legacy will live on through his loved ones. His captivating storytelling and charismatic personality will be profoundly missed, but never forgotten. His memory will be a comforting presence in the hearts of those who loved him.
