Big Will's obituary

William "Big Will" Ross Jr., 69, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Montgomery, Alabama, after a courageous battle with cancer that began in 2008. Known for his strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family, Big Will leaves behind a profound legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Big Will was born on November 14, 1954, in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late William Ross Sr. and Sherry Ross. He was deeply proud of his roots in Montgomery, where he lived his entire life. A man of integrity and strength, Big Will had a character that inspired everyone around him.

At the age of 18, Big Will decided to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Fort Benning in Georgia. He went on to serve with honor in the Vietnam War, where he formed lasting bonds with friends, including johnnie walker. His courage and dedication earned him several commendations throughout his service. After the war, Big Will spent an additional [number] years in the Army Reserves before retiring with the rank of Lieutenant.

During his time abroad in [location], Big Will met and fell in love with Ruthie Ross. The couple married in [1979] and settled in Montgomery, where they built a loving home and a family founded on respect, compassion, and mutual support. Their bond remained strong throughout their lives, even after his mom passing.

Big Will was a proud father to Nicole Ross, Tarmecia Ross, and Roderick Lamar Ross, and a doting grandfather to his grandsons: Jatwan Ross, Zyqaruis Ross, Kenjerrious Ross, and Tommy Williams. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took great pride in guiding them with love and wisdom.

In his professional life, Big Will worked for [Police force] for [23 years, where he was known for his dedication and work ethic. When he wasn’t working, Big Will had a passion for [football] and [basketball], which brought him much joy and allowed him to connect with others who shared his interests.

Big Will fought his battle with cancer with the same strength and determination that he applied to every aspect of his life. Since being diagnosed in 2008, he faced each challenge with remarkable courage and resilience. Though cancer took his physical presence, his spirit and legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Big Will was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ruthie Ross, and his parents, William Ross Sr. and Sherry Ross. He is survived by his children Nicole Ross, Tarmecia Ross, Roderick Lamar Ross, his grandchildren Jatwan Ross, Zyqaruis Ross, Kenjerrious Ross, and Tommy Williams, his nephews Carter Stovall and Clifton Stovall Jr., and his sister-in-laws Annice Brown, Mary Rollins, and Bobby Lawery.

A man of deep faith, Big Will was devoted to helping others. He was a quiet, yet strong presence in his community, always ready to lend a hand, offer words of encouragement, or support those in need. His generosity, warmth, and sense of humor made him beloved by all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Big Will’s life will be held on October 15, 2024, at 12:00 PM at New Home Baptist Church, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember this extraordinary man. Burial will follow at [Kendell cemtary].
