Background
According to the National Cancer Institute 1,918,030 new cases of cancer were identified in 2022. Our father Bill was one of those people. On September 11, he learned that urothelial carcinoma (first spotted in a dysfunctional kidney he'd removed the year prior) had metastasized to other areas of his body despite the preventative chemotherapy in January. This was not the first time our dad had encountered a battle with this insidious disease. In 2004, with the diagnosis of prostate cancer, our father received excellent care from Moffitt in Tampa, Florida. Sadly, this bout with a even more aggressive and lethal carcinoma ended on February 1, 2023. After just 5 months, Dad passed gently in the night with my sister by his side reassuring him that every thing was going to be OK. That he had nothing to fear and that we would take care of my mom and each other.
In tribute to his memory and having received successful treatment at Moffitt, our family asks that if you feel moved to make a donation, that you direct your investment toward the prevention and cure of cancer. Cancer touches all of us, and unites us in experience. Your donation in our father's name will help improve cancer care for families, provide tools clinicians need for new treatments, and fund cutting-edge research to save more lives. Navigating the health care system amidst a health crisis is one of the most complex and difficult challenges that our family has ever had to face.
