Dear Annette and Mary, my name is Vida, and back in 1972-74, our family lived next door to yours on 11th Ave in Oakland. We were upstairs neighbors to the Torres Family. Annette, back then, you and Bill asked if I would babysit Mary and Michael once a week as both of you worked/school during the evenings. As a thirteen year old I was eager to take on one of my first babysitting jobs, and I loved it. You and Bill were so kind to me, and your kids were great to watch. You guys had an amazing stereo system on which I played my records and also loved the gorgeous Wurlitzer organ in your living room. I wanted to reach out to you and offer my condolences for Bill's passing. He was an amazing guy. I remember him so young, jovial, vivacious and just super kind to me. And Annette, I remember your big red car -- the only one on the block that was a classic! I'm currently in grad school and am writing a fictional novel loosely based on my childhood/teenage years living with my family on 11th Avenue--my favorite house. I visited the old neighborhood not too long ago and saw the Nettle name plate still hanging above the front stairs. I also began looking up the Torres family and yours and that's when I learned about Bill's passing. Again, my condolences to you and may God continue to bless your family. My Best, Vida.

My condolences to Bill's family and friends. I knew Bill through a Kaiser Support Group we both attended for many years. He was always generous with his time, concern for everyone's needs, and sharing his life experience if it would help others. He was a dependable rock for our group and a good friend to me. He will be missed.

Brother, I just want you to know I love you so much and you’re such a big part of our Christmases and holidays around here. Your never ending stories, and the insanity of your household always had us laughing. You never forgot a birthday as long as I can remember, you’re so thoughtful. Thoughtful yes, stubborn as hell yes. You would go through so much to get to San Jose with your bike and Bart, but you would always refuse a ride home. You looked like the Michelin man getting ready to go on safari when you rode away from our house. Never would take a ride!!!
We miss your crazy butt more than you know. You’re the most caring person I know and somehow all the dogs were always so attracted to you. We’ll, you know what they say about horses, dogs, and little babies. They can always sense a good person.
I’m so glad you had such a long life, but I am also glad that you are relieved of all your pain and all the things that you HAD to do just to make it. Enjoy your eternal life brother, love you so much!
Your sister, Karrie
Of course Mom, Steve, Hunter, Brady, Emmie, Buck, and Missie Moo!🐕🐕

Bill was an amazing person and someone I will never forget. He was kind, honest, and willing to give you the shirt off of his back. I only knew Bill for a short time, but the level of trust he put in me was something that you don't find in many people. I would always make a trip to visit with Tito when ever we in Oakland and it remained one of the highlights of our trips. I consider myself like to have met him and count him as a friend.

Bill was truly one of kind in this world, with a huge heart and an even bigger sense of humor. My trip to California with Bill as both host and tour guide is a memory I will hold in my heart forever. I am sending so much love and peace to all those lucky enough to know him and love him.
