Bill's obituary
Born in San Francisco CA on March 13, 1937, he graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1955 and from the California Maritime Academy as a marine engineer in Vallejo, CA in 1958. He traveled the world on merchant ships before being drafted into the United States Army. He arrived at Fort Lee, Virginia with his new bride, Carmen, in 1960. After completing his Army service he returned to his merchant marine career in San Francisco.
Now with two young daughters, Bill accepted a job with Kemper Insurance to be able to spend more time with his family. In 1967 he was transferred to the home office of Kemper Corp in Chicago eventually serving in the Loss Control Service division in Long Grove. Bill would later be named an officer of the company and served on the board of directors for several national and international professional organizations. He retired from Kemper after 35 years just in time to become a full time Papa to his precious grandchildren.
A devoted husband, father, Papa, and Great Grand Papa, he loved spending time with his family often planning road trips around the U.S., international trips with his wife, and outings to many museums, parks, and cultural events with his children and grandchildren. He loved the ocean, classical music, history, biographies, and politics.
Bill leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Carmen, and his daughters, Jeanette (Edward) Williams and Margaret Miranda, his cherished grandchildren: Miranda (Ben) Hale and Ethan Williams, and his three great-grandchildren: Eli, Ava, and Zoe Hale, his sisters Dorothy (Richard) Neamand, Kathryn Penn, and his brother Thomas Miranda, nieces Kimberly and Michelle Neamand, and Cindy, Sherry and Tracy Miranda. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Dorothy Miranda, and his brother, Richard Miranda.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:45am at the Saint Isidore Chapel in Bloomingdale IL.
Bill's wishes for cremation have been honored.
