William Elston "Bill" Magie III, 77, of Redding, CA, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
Born on December 23, 1947, Bill faced the challenges of developmental disability and epilepsy with determination. He graduated from North Salinas High School in 1967 and later earned a degree from Butte Community College in 1977.
Following high school, Bill moved to San Jose, CA, where he worked for Hope Services, supporting individuals with disabilities. In 1972, he relocated to Chico and over the next five decades had a fruitful relationship with California’s Far Northern Regional Center for the disabled. Bill was an active and valued member of the developmentally disabled community in Butte and Shasta counties. He participated in and contributed to numerous organizations dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities.
For more than 25 years, Bill made his home in Paradise before relocating to Redding following the 2018 Camp Fire. There, he quickly established new roots and continued his community involvement. A lifelong Christian, Bill was a longtime member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Paradise.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian Magie; and his brothers, James Magie and Richard Magie.
Bill is survived by his sisters Nancy Venuti, Barbara Smart, Cynthia Sorensen, and Leilani Rexius; and his brother Stephen Magie.
A burial service will be held at Redding Memorial Park on Friday, October 10 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Far Northern Regional Center in Redding or People First of California.
Bill's life was marked by perseverance and community involvement. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
