Bill's obituary
William means “stong-willed warrior” and never has a name been so true. William, also known to those who love him most as Dad, Pops, Brother Billy and Bampa, was indeed a warrior who fought a good fight all thoughout his life, but most specifially these last couple years to have extra time with his family.
William David Lyman, age 72, passed away on February 27, 2022. He went home to be with the Lord after a recent illness and the return of a fast growing lung cancer.
He was born in 1949 in San Bernardino, CA. to Mellie and William Lyman. Bill was the eldest of ten children and after the passing of his father in 1966, when he was only 17 years old, he stepped up and became a father figure to many of his siblings.
Bill was a proud Veteran. He served in the US Air Force as a Sergent and was honorably discharged in 1976.
Bill was a hard worker. He worked long days at Cal Trans for more than 30 years and it was from there that he retired. He wore many hats over the years and operated just about every piece of heavy equipment there is, but working on the bridge crew was his favorite.
Bill loved baseball, classic cars, and motorcycles. He loved watching drag racing and horse racing and loved to go road-tripping with family.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and friend.
Bill was predeceased by both his mother Mellie and father William, his brothers Pat, Bob and Dennis, his nephew William “Emery,” and niece Diane. They will certainly have gathered to welcome him into Heaven.
He leaves behind his sisters, Therese, Kathy, and Maureen, and his brothers Mike, Andy and Stanley. In addition, he leaves behind three sons Dan, Rodney and Lucas and three daughters-in law Christy, Tiffany, and Stephanie “Shorty.”
Most recently, Bill resided with Lucas and Tiffany and they lovingly provided the daily caregiving and assistance that he needed these last couple years during his battle with cancer.
He also had many cherished nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and an aunt Georgia Lee, as well as great friends that were like family.
Last but certainly not least, Bill left behind eight grandchildren that were the highlight of his life. Andrew, Dacey, Evan, Gabe, Brooklyn, Addy, Sam and Billy. He was and will always be “Bampa.” The one who took the kids to visit the goats, went for ice-cream dates, commented on every one of their social media posts, and cheered them on at their baseball, soccer and softball games beaming with pride. Of everything in his life, he was most proud of his children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.
Bill was an integral part of a large loving family. That is his legacy. He was one of a kind and to be loved by him was to be truly blessed.
You ran the race set out before you. You are now resting in the arms of our loving Father. You finished well Pops. You will be missed.
