In Loving Memory of William “Bill” Lester Fowler

It is with deep love and remembrance that we celebrate the life of William “Bill” Lester Fowler, who passed away peacefully on August 5, 2022, at the age of 90 in Charlotte, NC. Born on April 22, 1932, in Ashe County, NC, Bill lived a life devoted to family, hard work, and faith.
Bill married his beloved wife, Josie Geraldine Cochran, on June 19, 1952, in Elkin, NC. They shared nearly 70 wonderful years together before her passing on April 24, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Y. Fowler.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Sherry Melinda Fowler (Bernesser) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Thomas James Bernesser Jr. and wife Kariena of Indian Trail, NC, Brian David Bernesser of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Jason Keith Bernesser and wife Tammy of Charlotte, NC, and Amanda Renee Bernesser of Mt. Pleasant, NC; and five great-grandchildren—Baylee, Cole, Jaylynn, Cayden, and Jody—who adored him deeply.
Bill proudly served in the United States Army as an engine rebuilder. After his honorable discharge, he worked for many years as a diesel mechanic for several trucking companies in the Charlotte area. He was a proud member of VFW Mecklenburg Post No. 1160, honoring his service and camaraderie with fellow veterans. Upon retirement, Bill enjoyed stamp collecting and was an active member of the Charlotte Philatelic Society. He was also a devoted Jehovah’s Witness, following his faith closely throughout his life.
Bill loved spending time in the North Carolina mountains around Cranberry Creek, where he spent much of his childhood, and he cherished family trips to the beach. In his later years, he became an avid antique collector, always appreciating the beauty and history of unique treasures.
Above all, Bill was passionate about his family, dedicating countless years to raising his grandchildren and later cherishing his role as a great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his unwavering love, generosity, and devotion to those he held dear.
