William's obituary
Beloved father, husband, son, and brother, William "Bill" Sommer Kollmorgen passed away peacefully on November 4, 2021, at the age of 83.
William was born in South Euclid, Ohio, on May 21, 1938, to parents William Carl Kollmorgen and Athena DeVee Kollmorgen (née Sommer). He grew up fishing, catching snapping turtles, and devoting himself to his older sister, the late Shirley LaGore (née Kollmorgen). William received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Kent State University and subsequently served in the United States Army Reserve as a draftsman for several years.
Tired of shoveling the Midwest snow, William eventually said, "the good Lord put it there, the good Lord can take it away," and moved to California. He married the late Leocadia Kollmorgen (née Bendorovicz) and had one son, William Lawrence Kollmorgen. He later married Estrella Kollmorgen (née de la Cruz) and had two daughters, Jean-Camille "JC" Kollmorgen and Estelle-Marie Mackay (née Kollmorgen). He held several occupations throughout his life, including a salesman, bank manager, and design consultant.
William enjoyed camping, gardening, bowling, watching basketball, reading Louis L'Amour books, taking care of animals, exercising, building and fixing things, and watching "shoot 'em up, bang 'em up movies." Known as "Bill" for most of his life, in his later years he suddenly declared, "I think I'd like to be called William now."
William is survived and forever loved by his wife and three children.
