Bill's obituary

William Michael Jones 1962 - 2025

William Michael Jones, 63, of Murrysville, PA, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Born February 21, 1962, to Robert Sr. and Patricia Jones, he lived a life marked by service to others and an infectious joy that touched all who knew him.

Known as "Billy" in his youth and later as "Beege" to friends and family, William achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout in his teens, setting the foundation for a lifetime of helping others. His professional journey included roles ranging from retail to automotive mechanics, culminating in a position at Beckwith Machinery Company, where he specialized in forklift, HVAC, and Caterpillar equipment repair.

William's zest for life was evident in everything he pursued. An accomplished dancer, enthusiastic karaoke singer with a particular fondness for Neil Diamond and Frank Sinatra, and dedicated athlete, he embraced life's adventures with characteristic enthusiasm. In his twenties, he was an avid racquetball player and pursued both racquetball and bodybuilding alongside his good friend Geno Swiech. His athletic prowess extended to volleyball, where he excelled in the YMCA league and earned several trophies, and he proudly participated in the Pittsburgh Great Race. His practice of Aikido alongside his brother Rob led to lasting friendships and embodied his commitment to personal growth. An avid outdoorsman, he spent many cherished hours hunting, fishing, and boating with close friends.

Bill was a beloved stepdad to his 3 step children: Tommy, Erin and Chris. He was a wonderful grandpa to his 7 grandkids: MacKenzie, Abigail, Noah, Maxine, Josephine, Charlotte and Margaret.

He was “Uncle Beege” to his nieces Alyssa, and Jessica and his nephew Michael.

A skilled mechanic by trade and a helper by nature, William never hesitated to assist others with repairs, steadfastly refusing payment for his services. His genuine warmth and "happy-go-lucky" spirit made him a treasured friend and family member.

He is survived by his partner of nearly 20 years Carol of Murrysville, siblings Robert Jones (Charlene) of South Park, and John Prettyman (Julie) of Oil City; sister-in-law Gertrude Hogan of Texas;

He was predeceased by his father Robert J Jones, step-father Eugene Prettyman, brother Richard Hogan, and mother Patricia Jones.

All are welcome to join us for a special Celebration of Life service which will be held on July 14, 2025, from 6-8 PM at Monroeville Assembly of God at 4561 Old William Penn Hwy, Monroeville, PA 15146. We will enjoy fellowship and light refreshments from 6-7pm. Service will start at 7pm followed by more refreshments.

The family extends special thanks to family and friends for their prayers and unwavering support during William's illness.
