Dear Family and Friends,

The funeral service for our father will take place Monday, August 9, 2021, at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Virginia. He will receive full military honors.

Guests must arrive at the Administration Building on Memorial Avenue by 8:00 AM. Guests arriving after 8:00 AM will not be admitted to the service due to the strict security on the military base. There will be heavy rush hour traffic in Arlington and Crystal City at this hour, so it’s good to give yourself extra time for travel.

Arlington National Cemetery is a military facility with strict security. All guests must go through inspection, and provide government issued photo ID.

Rental cars have become very expensive recently, double or triple the normal price, due to pandemic related shortages in the auto industry. You may want to factor this into your travel plans.

Our expectation is that most of the people who attended the memorial service in April will not be able to attend the funeral service. We are providing this information in case you, or someone you know, would like to attend.

THE ORDER OF EVENTS

1 hour prior to the scheduled service time:
Family and guests arrive at the cemetery via Memorial Avenue.
Gate guards will direct you to park in queuing lanes. Signs will let you know which lane is dedicated to your service.
Proceed to the Administration Building, where the receptionist will guide you to your assigned family room.

10-15 minutes prior to the scheduled service time:
The family's assigned ANC representative provides guidance on the funeral procession.
Procession departs from queuing lanes, led by the family's assigned ANC representative, to the gravesite location or transfer point.

The service (generally 20-30 minutes):
Committal service is conducted.
Military funeral honors are rendered.
Family departs gravesite to exit the cemetery.

Arlington National Cemetery is located across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. at the end of Memorial Avenue, which extends from Memorial Bridge.

Arlington is accessible from the major roadways in the D.C. area: Interstate 95, the Capital Beltway (I-495), the George Washington Memorial Parkway and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (I-295).

Arlington National Cemetery is also a stop on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Metrorail system. Arlington Cemetery station, on Metro's Blue line, is a short walk from the Welcome Center.
