William's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Hemingway, after a short lived battle with cancer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  Born on October 14, 1959 in Meriden, CT,  William's life was marked by a vibrant spirit and profound generosity until his passing on July 5, 2024.

William is survived by his loving wife, P Nancy Hemingway, whom he married in 1984 moving to Manchester CT where they made  their home until 2021.  He left an indelible mark on his children, Michael, JeanMarie, Patrick, Victor and Sean Hemingway, his grandchildren who affectionately called him Grandpa Choo-Choo for his passion for HO Trains or Grandpa Bara for living in a country where Capybaras are everywhere, He was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth French and William C Hemingway and his brother Ralph Scott, his sister JoAnn Mangiafico, grandparents and numerous uncles. William's family was his pride and joy, and he instilled in them values of honesty, hard work, perseverance, loyalty, and authenticity.

A memorial service in honor of William will be held on July 6, 2024, at 6:00 PM at Sol - Cementerio Parque / Crematorio Park, Cordoba, Argentina.  Ashes will be scattered aboard his favorite hobby - Steam Engine in southern Argentina.

Known for his humor, big heart, and caring nature, William was an integral part of his community. He attended both St. Bridget Church and St Jean Baptiste Societe and was a tireless volunteer at Special Olympics Connecticut. He had a particular fondness for steak, empanadas, and Jack Daniels, and he loved listening to Billy Joel, Elton John, Kiss, and ACDC. In his free time, he enjoyed building trains, fishing, and playing Train Simulator, always accompanied by his loyal dogs, Duke and Diara.

William's favorite local spots included Old Country Buffet, the Kielbasa Cart, and Shoneys, but he was also fond of traveling, particularly to Maine, New Hampshire, Florida, and Argentina. He was passionate about causes such as Special Olympics and Rocking 4 the Troops, adding a tangible difference to these organizations.

One of William's greatest accomplishments was moving to his wife's country without knowing the language and still managing to be loved by all who met him. His charisma transcended language barriers, and his innate kindness resonated with all those he encountered. His favorite colors were beige and brown, simple, earthy colors that reflected his grounded personality.

William's legacy will always be one of tenacity, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. As he often said, "Never give up the fight, do what's right, care for others." In William's memory, let us honor his lessons and continue his legacy of love, resilience, and self-sacrifice.
