Karen your loss was so sad, yet he was found in the end. I pray you received some peace in that. Praying for you to find comfort in this from Jesus who is our great comforter

Bill was the youth group sponsor at Wheaton Wesleyan when I was young.  He came over one evening to pick up my sister and me for some youth group function, and we were eating dinner.  He told us to eat fast, and I proceeded to finish supper very quickly.  He laughed and said, "Well I didn't mean that fast!"    

I do not remember when I first met Bill, but we were close friends in the 1980s - 1990s in Wheaton, IL, before I moved away. I remember many visits to his home, where we would consult about one case or another that he was working on. (I was on the Board of Peacemakers.) We shared the same first name, "William." My father told me when I was young, that that name meant "resolute defender." That was a fitting name for Bill Fields. Time and again he defended "the little guy" against "authority" figures who felt that they were above God's Law.  He was always seeking God's "shalom" between people.  But the process was hard on him, and I wasn't surprised when he told me over the phone from California that he felt his mind was paying the price. Bill was willing to sacrifice himself to bring reconciliation between others. I have seldom met anyone who was more dedicated to ministry for Christ and His Kingdom. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing but know that I will see his smiling face again.  My deep condolences to his family.
