Bill's obituary
William “Bill” Joseph Cushing, 72, a respected builder and beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at his home in Royal Palm Beach, FL, surrounded by family.
He was born in New York City in 1953 to William and Evelyn and grew up enjoying childhood hijinks with his older brother, Michael, in New Milford, NJ. Bill graduated from St. Cecelia High School in Englewood, NJ before moving to Palm Beach County, FL, and founding Cushing Pool and Patio in 1976, building 4,000 swimming pools over the course of 40 years. His integrity and dedication to quality made Bill a trusted name in the community he loved to call home, and he was instrumental in driving the early growth of Wellington, FL and surrounding areas.
Committed to being home every evening for dinner and baseball practice, Bill’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family. Known more for his expertise than his patience, he imparted life lessons to his sons through exciting DIY projects like building tree houses and batting cages, complete with colorful language from the heart. He never missed trivia night with his wife, holding an impressive winning record at several local establishments.
Bill’s generosity extended beyond his family. He was a natural mentor, and helped employees grow their talents and their own businesses. He was also a legendary little league coach, developing and guiding champions on and off the field for 15 years.
Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janet, their sons Daniel (wife Jayme) and James (wife Lauren), and grandchildren Liam, Elise, Layla, and Zara, who will carry his lessons forward. A celebration for Bill will be hosted by his family in the new year.
