William Anthony Binns
February 1, 1944 – October 11, 2025
William Binns (also known as “Bill”) passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 1, 1944, in Los Angeles, California to Walter Scott Binns and Peggy Antonia McSweeney.
In his early years, Bill studied in the Seminary in Santa Barbara. He then joined the Peace Corps; serving in Colombia and Vietnam. Bill later began a distinguished career with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). During which he served as a U.S. Diplomat with assignments around the world (including Egypt, Sri Lanka, Peru, and Bangladesh).
He was a devoted member and volunteer at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro, California. Bill’s faith guided his life and inspired those who knew him. Bill loved good conversations, world affairs, and connecting with people from all walks of life. His warmth, intelligence, and wit touched everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, An Binns, and their children Joseph, Thomas, George, Peggy, and Alana Binns. He was a proud grandfather to Kiki, Kimberly, Suriya, Keeyan, Kieran, Xavier, and Bruce. His family will forever treasure the love, wisdom, and humor he shared so generously.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Bill’s life will be held on November 5, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro, California.
In lieu of flowers, the Family kindly requests donations be made to Mary Star of the Sea High School in Bill’s memory.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
