William (Bill)'s obituary
William (Bill) David Freeman Sr. passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, August 17th, 2023. He recently celebrated his 85th birthday at home with family. Born on July 23rd, 1938, in Greenville, SC, to Marion Ray and Annie May Calk Freeman. Most knew him as Bill; however, throughout his childhood, he was known as Dub, or WD. He was the 4th of 5 children- Irma, Jim, Dorothy and Betty. He is survived by his loving wife Kathy of 42 years. Bill deeply loved all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill graduated from Greenville high school, South Carolina, in 1957 and after graduating, he joined the US Navy, serving 4 years, enjoying world travels on the USS Rochester, to Australia, Guam, Okinawa and Japan. After his time in the Navy, he moved back home to Greenville for 3 years and then to Sacramento for the remainder of his life. He retired in 2002, finishing his career as a Master Mechanic and as Service Manager of Swift Dodge and Lasher Automotive. He always loved the challenge of finding solutions to difficult problems.
Bill and Kathy spent many of their 42 years together traveling in their motorhome, throughout California, while camping and fishing. He also enjoyed gardening, the San Francisco 49ers and Giants and was a master of the BBQ. He loved to socialize with family and friends, always with a big heart, quick wit and a hilarious sense of humor. He lived his life with the mindset of “A strong mind, prompted by noble purpose.”
Graveside services will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at 7780 Midway Rd. Dixon, CA 95600 on Monday, October 9th at 8:30 a.m.
