Pat's obituary
William Arthur Patrick McGurk – AKA Patrick McGurk
Patrick McGurk was born on Friday December 2, 1955. He was born during a waning Gibbous moon – two days after a full moon – 89% of the moon was illuminated during this day. Welcoming Patrick into the world on this day was his mother Franny McGurk and his father Dan L. Lockwood McGurk. Surely, they were overjoyed to bring a new baby into the world – a baby, a fresh start, limitless possibilities, new life, 100% illuminated.
Many people list the accomplishments of their loved ones. And Patrick had many accomplishments. Patrick received his bachelor’s degree at Southern Oregon State. After a few years of working in a greenhouse, selling furs, and working as a teacher, he moved his family to Southern California for more opportunity. Patrick began working for a Title Insurance company in 1985 and was a huge success. He was a sales representative for 36 years. He supported and cared for the people he worked with and helped to bolster the careers of many.
Patrick’s biggest accomplishment was his family. He left behind 5 children, 6 grandchildren, and his longtime partner and co-parent. He also left behind 6 siblings and their spouses. Patrick enfolded many friends into his heart and treated them as family. Never missing an opportunity to talk on the phone or show up for a visit, Patrick was always surrounded by loved ones.
Patrick McGurk had many phases of his life, he was a son, a brother, a friend, a husband, a father, and a grandfather. Through all these phases he sought adventure, got into trouble, made people laugh, and found a place in his heart for all. Some people say that we will meet Patrick again, at another time, another dimension, somewhere perhaps like space. I see my father every day. I see him on a nice day, and I must proclaim, as he did, that it’s a beautiful day. I see him in my family, in the ocean, on a road trip, and while I am laughing. I am my father when I am with my family, when I am swimming in the ocean, on a road trip, or enjoying a good joke. He lives inside of me, and I am the most him when I am wild and enjoying my life. He knew, like no other person I know, how to really live.
Patrick died on Friday May 26, 2023; the phase of the moon was in the First Quarter with an illumination of 50.05%. He was surrounded by his 5 children and his long-time partner and co-parent. His children and those who knew Patrick will always be illuminated 100% by the light that he has always brought to us.
In lieu of flowers, please jump in the ocean, call an old friend, help a stranger, take a long drive, give a good hug, never miss an opportunity to wear fishnets, and please, make it a great day. Love you Dad.
