Bill's obituary
William Arthur “Bill” Hoffman, age 81, of Eureka Landing in Uriah, Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026.
Bill was born on November 6, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio, and moved to Pensacola, Florida as an infant. He grew up in Pensacola and graduated from Pensacola High School, where he was a standout athlete and once held the school record in the high jump.
Bill believed in education and hard work. He earned an Associate of Arts degree from Pensacola State College, a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Florida State University, and later completed his Master of Business Administration from Troy University.
After graduating from Florida State University, Bill began his career at the CPA firm Creel & Dennison. He later joined Reichold Chemical Company in Bay Minette, Alabama, where he also taught accounting at Faulkner State College. His career continued at Sandestin in Destin, Florida, during its early development under Evans and Mitchell of Atlanta, followed by positions with Great Southern Nakoosa in Dothan, Alabama, and Niagara Wires in Quincy, Florida, while living in nearby Havana.
In 1979, Bill joined Alabama River Pulp in Monroeville, Alabama. He began as an accountant and advanced to Controller, then Vice President and Treasurer. He and his family relocated to Monroeville as the pulp mill began operations, where Bill played an important role in the company’s early success. He retired from Alabama River Pulp in 1999 after many years of dedicated service.
Outside of work, Bill lived life fully and stayed involved in his community. He was a licensed pilot, an avid baseball umpire for local high schools and small colleges, and a devoted water skier. Anyone on the dock knew to move when Bill was skiing—or risk getting soaked by his legendary spray. He also served on the school board at Monroe Academy, on the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association, and on the Frisco City Council. After retirement, he continued working around Silver Hill, Alabama, simply to stay busy.
Bill loved hunting, fishing, and canoeing, especially when he could share those moments with his children and grandchildren. Teaching them and spending time together meant everything to him. He was deeply family-oriented and cherished time with his brothers, nieces, and nephews.
In August 2023, Bill was diagnosed with cancer and moved to Cornelius, North Carolina, to be closer to his daughter while receiving treatment. He fought a long and courageous battle for more than two and a half years.
Bill was known for his intelligence, strong work ethic, dry wit, and generous spirit. He was kind, giving, and deeply devoted to his family.
He is survived by his son, James “Jimmy” Hoffman; his daughter, Andrea Kline (Khris); his brothers, George Hoffman and James “Jamie” Hoffman (Janet); his grandchildren, Regan Hoffman (Kasey Crabtree), Tyler Hoffman (Hanna), Alexandra Kline, and Khristiana Kline; and his great-grandchildren, Nathan and Nolan Hoffman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. Hoffman and Louise Frisch Hoffman.
Billy decided to donate his body to science at Wake Forest University. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
