Billy's obituary
We are devastated to announce the passing of a true Norfolk Legend, William "Billy" Russell Arney Sr., at the age of 65. Billy peacefully went to be with the Lord on July 19th, 2023. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia on November 8th, 1957, to his mother Fern Ellison and father Earl Greene.
Billy spent most of his life right here in Norfolk, Virginia. A one of a kind. He became a legend in the area, because he spent a great deal of his life helping other people. He often would lend people money, or help find them a job. It was nothing to see him changing someone's tire, or fixing a friend's roof. Always giving more than he received, he was just a phone call away. Chances are if you knew him, he helped you in some way!
Billy’s most treasured possessions were his children and grandchildren. In his younger years he could be found, riding a motorcycle and living life on the edge. Later in life, he still enjoyed his bike. But, spent more time surrounding himself with his wife and family. He loved giving them life advice and laughing it up. All while playing a good game of cards, checkers or darts in his garage. He was also a great pool player, and could compete with the best!
Billy was a Master Tradesman who worked hard everyday, with his beloved wife Natasha right beside him. He became familiar in the area as the man who could get it done. No matter your station in life, whether the owner of the company, or the laborer. His big heart gave everyone the same respect, and allowed him to help all who needed a hand!
Billy was also a hustler. He was tough, and knew how to make things happen. Even after a long day of work or spending time with his family, he would roll one up and search on marketplace for the next vehicle or item he could flip. This was often with his cat Reo and dog Moose at his side!
Billy had a certain way about him that glowed and pulled people in, as if you were watching a real life movie play in front of you. His warm smile and golden eyes really made every moment count. And made everyone feel special!
Billy was a true Norfolk Native. He frequented local establishments from Oceanview to Downtown Norfolk. You could often find him having a bite to eat at a local family owned restaurant. Or even picking up supplies from the local supply store. He loved his community, and they loved him!
Billy was a Christian man, who had a long fought battle with cancer. He passed away exactly as he wanted, in his home surrounded by the people he loved the most!
Billy Arney the Legend will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, nephew and son. He will not be forgotten, but will live on in our hearts forever! As he would say “Wanta bet a hundred?”
Billy was preceded in death by his mother Fern Ellison; father Earl Greene; brothers Johnny Coggins and Mike Arney; and his son Landon Arney.
Billy is survived by his wife Natasha Arney, son William Arney Jr (Tiffany), daughters Zena Terry (Jerome); Natasha Goddard (Dylan); Shania Arney; Leona Arney, and several grandchildren.
Billy is also survived by his twin sister Debbie Arney, sisters Freda Upton and Lisa Walton, brothers Tommy Arney, Rodney Greene and Buddy Strickland. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service for The Legend Billy Arney on Saturday July 29th, 2023, from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Monument of Joy Church located at 8600 Granby Street, Norfolk Virginia 23503.
