Bill's obituary
William Addison Taylor, affectionately known to most as Bill, entered this world on November 6, 1947, in Los Angeles, California. Born as the third child to Dorothy Dolyeth (Porter) Taylor of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Robert (Bob) Maurice Taylor, Sr. of Ft. Worth, Texas.
Bill's journey through life was marked by significant experiences and cherished moments growing up in Watts with his six siblings. He commenced his education at St. Lawrence of Brindisi Catholic School, then to 99th Street Elementary School, progressing on to Gompers Junior High School, and eventually graduating from David Starr Jordan High School with the summer class of 1966. During these formative years, he made his mark on the varsity football and track teams, etching his name in the LA City track finals and the California State Championship in the 120-yard high hurdles.
Post-high school, Bill was drafted into the United States Army, embarking on a two-year tour stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, he transitioned into civilian life as an employee of the County of Los Angeles.
Harmonizing tunes with his siblings and spending time at the roller rink were small echoes of his youth. Included among his later passions was his beloved Jazz collection and classic Western films, which he referred to as "shoot 'em ups", a phrase that always brought a smile to his face. Fishing, camping, cooking and grilling with family also brought him a deep sense of joy.
After traveling to Longview, Texas, Bill decided to permanently relocate there and remarry the love of his life, Cynthia. He would look forward to visits from old friends from the Watts neighborhood, in what was dubbed "Watts in the Woods". He was very active and supportive of his wife’s Family Reunions in Marshall, Texas and Los Angeles, California.
Bill made his transition from this life on July 31, 2023, in Longview, Texas. His legacy lives on through the cherished memories he created with his wife, Cynthia Taylor and his loving children, Anthony Smith (Wife), Angela Carr (Marvin), William Addison Taylor II (Wife) and Maurice Thomas Taylor (Sharra). Among his siblings, he leaves a void—Robert Maurice Taylor, Jr. (Monica Triplett), Machara Ann (Taylor) LeMaile-Williams (Robert LeMaile-Williams, MD), Anthony Theodore Taylor (Lisa Landry-Taylor), Clyde “Bunny” Marie Taylor, Denise Teresa Taylor, and Dennis Thomas Taylor—each sharing a unique piece of his life's journey. The memories of his life will continue to be heard through the laughter of his grandchildren and the heartfelt stories told by nieces, nephews and countless friends and loved ones.
