Willene's obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Willene “Willie” Thigpen on May 14, 2025. She graced this world with her presence for 98 wonderful years. Born as the eldest of 14 children in York, Alabama, she was the embodiment of love, kindness, and warmth. She was known for her infectious smile and her remarkable ability to turn strangers into friends with just a few words.
Her life was a tapestry of cherished moments and fond memories, with many years spent in the beautiful state of Colorado where she worked in the public school system. Upon retirement, she and her husband Guy Thigpen, Jr. moved to Alabama, where they enjoyed their golden years together.
One of her favorite pastimes she shared with her daughter was sitting by the big picture window, sipping her coffee, and watching the birds gather outside, a scene that brought her immense peace and happiness.
She will be missed terribly by her daughter, Margaret “Maggie” Thigpen, 2 loving sisters, Barbara Nichols and Mary Joyce Sikes, and her devoted brother, Jerry Brown. Aunt Willene will live on in the memories of her many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly. She loved sharing her special recipes and her culinary prowess was legendary, particularly her chicken and dumplings and banana pudding. She had an endearing habit of giving those closest to her little nicknames, a testament to her attentive and loving nature.
She will be deeply missed but forever remembered, A celebration of life will be organized at a later date and posted here and on Facebook.
