Wilbur's obituary

Wilbur “Bill” Delp Jr. died peacefully on June 13, 2024, at Infinity Hospice Care in Las Vegas, NV at the age of 89.

Wilbur is survived by his wife Patricia (Vesely) Delp of 61 years; his children Marci (Delp) Myers (Jim), Melissa Delp, and Derek Delp (Michele); five grandchildren; and many close friends.

Wilbur was born on October 26, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, IA, to Wilbur C. Delp Sr. and Irene (Flynn) Delp. He played tennis at McKinley High School and graduated in 1952. He furthered his education at Coe College, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and graduated summa cum laude in 1956. Wilbur then received his law degree from NYU Law School in 1959. Additionally, he was a member of the Root-Tilden-Kern Scholarship Program and the NYU Law Review.

Wilbur met his wife, Patricia, in the Young Republicans Club of Chicago where they were both active members. They fell in love, married on June 22, 1963, and later had three children.

He was an avid Cubs fan and personal attorney to Mr. Wrigley. His children and grandchildren fondly remember attending games with him, regularly sitting on the first-base side of Wrigley Field.

Wilbur was a passionate attorney at Chicago law firm Sidley Austin, where he practiced for 42 years, becoming a senior partner in the corporate group with specialties in finance and mergers. He was also a dedicated member of the Executive Committee for the firm.

When he and his family moved to Wayne, IL, in 1974, Wilbur served as president and chairman of the Investment Committee of the Fox Valley Club.

His children and grandchildren remember him as a loving father and grandfather who always encouraged them to pursue their academic and personal goals.

The family would like to thank their daughter, Melissa, for her outstanding grace and commitment to caring for her father, as well as Tom, Rebecca, and the staff at Infinity Hospice Care for their efforts.

The family will be holding a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Ariana Rye Foundation at arianaryefoundation.com/donate. Condolences can be sent to Patricia Delp at ddesk1@aol.com.
