Wilbur's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wilbur. He was the epitome of grace, a beacon of love and strength, leaving a mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, and those he perceived as a threat to his mother.

Known for his inquisitive, sweet and stoic personality, Wilbur was always the first one to greet people at the door, with his eyes wide open and bushy tail up. He was ever so empathetic to the emotions of those around him, never failing to show his concern and offer comfort to those in need.

The most special connection he shared was with his mother, the human he loved and trusted the most, and protected fiercely. He was not shy to show his emotions towards her, and demanded cuddles, chin scratches, hugs and kisses whenever possible, while giving back the same. From good morning kisses, gentle nudges, blanket pulling (get up, need cuddles!), to looking dumbfounded when she went out of the house, or with the overwhelming signs of affection when she came home from a trip -- his unconditional love shone bright.

Wilbur's legacy is not simply a memory, but a  feeling, a constant reminder of an uniquely warm personality and resilience in the face of a series of extremely complicated health issues (and bad haircuts due to his mother's ineptitude). Those who were fortunate enough to know him knew him to be strong and independent, at the same time, attentive and constantly alert. They often felt intimidated by his huge piercing eyes that felt like he was looking right through them, but also felt amusement at his party pooping tendencies; his alias being the "fun police".

Wilbur really didn't like loud noises and excess cheeriness in his last few years, perhaps due to extreme fluctuations in his blood glucose level, or the years of pain and discomfort he hid all too well behind that incredible personality. It hardly stopped him from doing everything in his power to try steal chicken. His growls when his mother wrenched chicken from his mouth had been a constant source of amusement for his aunt. Wilbur only ever showed aggression towards other animals that he felt didn't respect his boundaries, and on rare occasions, people he felt having ill intentions.

Surprisingly, he also defended the same animals if he perceived them being under threat. If his sister was being chased, he would run up to the offender and slap, bite or do whatever needed to save her.

Over the many hospital visits, he had won over the hearts of many of his caregivers. They often looked forward to giving him cuddles, something he surely appreciated as he hated confinement and craved human companionship often.

Wilbur was everything a fur-parent could have hoped for and far greater. His presence brought unconditional joy to his mother, who will never fill the massive void left behind by his untimely passing. He meant the world to her, was her loving companion, her baby boy. She wishes him the best in whatever journey lies ahead, because he deserved, and continues to deserve nothing less than the best. If there is a life in great beyond, she hopes to meet him one day and learn of the great adventure he must have embarked on.

Wilbur, we will miss you and all your quirks. Your intelligence, strength, empathy, loyalty and dedication to your mom and the most handsome looks will be remembered by all those who had the privilege of meeting you, and falling in love.
