Wendy's obituary
Wendy Simon, beloved wife, aunt, stepmother, grandmother, and dear friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 23, 2026, at the age of 53, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on May 30, 1972, in The Bronx, New York, Wendy lived a life defined by love, joy, and deep connection with those around her. She was known for her radiant smile, her uplifting and honest spirit, and her ability to light up every room she entered. Wendy had a rare gift—she made people feel seen, welcomed, and truly loved. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing her was better for it. Wendy embraced life fully and joyfully. She loved dancing, traveling, live music, playing slots, and spending time laughing with family and friends. An avid Miami Dolphins fan, Wendy treasured game days—particularly the tailgating, where music, great food, and laughter brought people together and friendships grew into bonds that felt like family. She had a passion for health and wellness, enjoying fitness, yoga, and living a clean, organic lifestyle. She also took great pride in her Puerto Rican heritage, embracing her culture with love, energy, and celebration.
Wendy was also deeply respected and admired in her professional life. She was highly goal-oriented, driven, and took great pride in her work as a property manager—transforming it into a successful and fulfilling career. Through her dedication, leadership, and strong work ethic, Wendy excelled in her role and made a lasting impact wherever she worked. Just as she did in her personal life, she built meaningful friendships and connections along the way, earning the trust, respect, and admiration of colleagues and residents alike. Her professionalism, compassion, and ability to truly care for others set her apart and reflected the same warmth and integrity that defined every part of her life.
Wendy shared a once-in-a-lifetime love with her husband, Joe Simon—a love that truly felt like a storybook romance. They were soulmates in every sense of the word, deeply connected and devoted to one another. Whether they were traveling, spending time with family and friends, or simply enjoying quiet moments together, their bond was undeniable. They brought out the absolute best in each other and lived their life side by side with unwavering love. They affectionately called each other “Mi Amor,” a reflection of the deep love, tenderness, and connection they shared every single day. Even during her illness, Wendy’s concern remained for Joe and his well-being—a true testament to her selfless and loving heart. Their love was rare, beautiful, and an inspiration to all who witnessed it.
Though she did not have children of her own, Wendy stepped into the lives of her stepdaughters, Ciara, and Chantell, as a devoted and loving mother figure. She was also a proud and adoring grandmother to Caleb, Colton, Caliana, Kenzie, Kaira, and Cambria, cherishing every moment spent with them. Her love extended deeply to her niece Ashley, whom she cared for as her own, and to so many others who saw her as a guiding, nurturing presence in their lives.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, her vibrant energy, and the way she made life feel brighter just by being in it. Her friendships were treasured, her laughter unforgettable, and her love everlasting.
Wendy is survived by her loving husband, Joe Simon; her niece Ashley Velez and nephew Bryson Brooks; her stepdaughters Ciara Simon (Brayden) and Chantell Neafcy (Stephen); her step grandchildren Caleb, Colton, Caliana, Kenzie, Kaira, and Cambria; her brothers, Elliot (Ana) Otero, Perfecto (Carmen) Otero, Hector Otero, and John (Cathy) Otero; and her sister Hilda Rosario. She was preceded in death by her mother, Placida Figueroa, brothers Peter Otero and Manuel Jordan and sister-in-law Ana Otero.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer months, with the date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Wendy’s memory to the American Cancer Society, honoring her strength, compassion, and love for others.

“Don’t worry, be happy” was the theme of Wendy and Joe’s love story. In her memory, may we strive to live a little more like she did- letting go of worry when we can and holding onto happiness wherever we find it. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
