Wendy's obituary

Wendy Jill Dunstan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, in Walnut Creek, California, following a courageous battle with lymphoma.

Wendy was born April 10th, 1947 in New Jersey to Hildred and Alva Williston. She attended college at Washington University in St. Louis, where she met her husband, James, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in French. Wendy and James moved to Virginia, where James served in the Army, before settling in California to start their family.

For 55 years, Wendy made Walnut Creek her home, where she touched countless lives as a high school English teacher at Acalanes High School in the Acalanes School District for three decades. Her passion for literature inspired generations of students, and her classroom was a place where great works came alive and young minds flourished. After retiring from education, Wendy volunteered at the Monument Crisis Center in Concord.

Known for her sense of humor and warm spirit, Wendy brought joy to every gathering. She loved traveling both far (France) and near (Napa), dining and cooking, and shopping for gifts for friends and family. Wendy delighted in celebrating holidays, especially Christmas, giving funny gifts, and creating cherished memories with her family that will be treasured for years to come.

Wendy is survived by her devoted husband, James Michael Dunstan; her son David and his wife, Katja; and her beloved granddaughters, Mia and Ella, who brought immeasurable happiness to her life.

We’re planning a Celebration of Life for Wendy in California in February of 2026.

Those who wish to honor Wendy’s memory might make donations to the lymphoma nonprofit of their choice.
