Wayne's obituary
Wayne Theodore Sorenson age 87, passed away on November 4, 2022.
Wayne was born to Theodore and Alfreda Sorenson on November 5, 1934, in Everson, Washington.
Wayne graduated from Nooksack Valley High School in 1954 and, that same year, he married his high school sweetheart, MaryAnn Markham (b. 1936). Wayne served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and the U.S. Army between 1953 and 1961.
Wayne was a building designer for over 50 years, designing many churches, homes, and other buildings across the Pacific Northwest. Wayne was a longtime member of the Lions Club in Everson and several Christian churches. At his death, he was a member of Grace Church in Sahuarita, Arizona.
With a love for sketching in his free time, Wayne produced thousands of hand-drawn pictures of places that were meaningful to him and took the time to make notes telling the stories associated with each building. He loved the beauty of Whatcom County and spent many weekends hiking trails and climbing in the mountains.
In the late, 1990s, Wayne moved to Tucson, Arizona to live close to family. For the last nine years, they have lived in Sahuarita, Arizona.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Phyllis Haugen (and husband Arnold), Betty Walther (and husband Raymond), Shirley Thompson (and husband Harry), brother-in-law Larry O'Grady, and brother-in-law Harold Markham (and wife Carolyn).
Wayne was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife MaryAnn, son Randy (wife Dana), daughter Shari (husband Tom), and grandchildren Tiffany (husband Alex), Robert, and Theodore. He is also survived by his sister Pat O'Grady, his cousins Denny (wife Lorraine) and Billy (wife Jody), who were like his brothers, and many much-loved nephews, nieces, and cousins. He will be remembered as a kind and grateful man who loved Jesus, cherished his family, and enjoyed telling stories through conversations and his art.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations may be made to Everson Lions Club, Lighthouse Mission in Bellingham, WA, or Grace Church Building Fund in Sahuarita, AZ.
On Saturday, August 19, 2023, Wayne's ashes will be buried in a private ceremony at the Nooksack Cemetery with an open reception for family and friends between 2 pm - 6 pm at Christ Fellowship in Everson, Washington.
