Warren's obituary

Warren Charles Roost was born January 20, 1936 in Lansing, MI to Harold Charles Roost and Florence Maude Roost (Truscott). He left his earthly bounds to join his Savior on January 5, 2020.

Warren spent his entire life in Lansing, MI. He graduated from Sexton High School in 1953 where he began his musical career. As a trombonist with the Sexton band he has the privilege of playing for Dwight D. Eisenhower at his inauguration on his 17th birthday. Music continued to be a very important part of his life including spending time playing with the V.F.W. Post 701, a national championship band, and the Lansing Concert Band.
Later in life he performed with the Sexton Alumni Band and the Capital Area Alumni Band. His love of music was not limited to playing his trombone. Warren and his wife Jean both sang in the choir at Christ United Methodist Church and later at University United Methodist Church. His beautiful bass voice was often heard booming from the choir loft where he would sometimes switch over to tenor or alto, even if they did not ask for help. His love of music became an inspiration to many in his family who continue performing in the area even today.
Warren attended General Motors Institute after high school but remained grounded in Lansing to be near his high school sweetheart. Warren and his soon to be bride met at Sexton High School in the orchestra. Warren in his trombone and Jean on her violin. Jean was immediately smitten by the good looking trombonist despite the leaky water key on his slide.
Warren left General Motors and began working for Michigan National Bank. After a few years he took a job with the State of Michigan where he eventually retired in 1995. During this time with the State of Michigan he was a very admired manager by his staff, and he developed many long-term friendships that continued well into his retirement.
Warren was also a very accomplished athlete in many different sports. From his letterman days in tennis at Sexton, to stints with many different fast pitch and slow pitch softball teams all across Lansing to many years on the golf courses. The one sport he really excelled in was racquetball where he won many championships at the Lansing YMCA and at tournaments all across the State of Michigan.
Warren was married to Thelma Jean (Allen) Roost on February 9, 1957 and together they raised 5 children. Kriste (Joseph) Hundt, Randall (Patricia) Roost, Kathlyn (Rock) Sellers, Lori (Michael) Carr, and Michael (Tiffany) Roost. Their 5 children have blessed them with 12 grandchildren, Andria (Cory) Amendt, Christopher (Carly) Hundt, Ryan (Gabrielle) Hundt, Jonathan (Kara) Roost, Jennifer (Trevin) Geiger, Jordynn Sellers, Hayley Sellers, Sara (Aaron) Hayes, Emily Carr, Steven Roost, Mackenzie Roost and Tristan Roost and 10 great-grandchildren, Claire, Calvin, Libbey, Charlotte, Liam, Emma, Dylan, Melody, Avery and Paige.
Warren was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Roost in 1991 and his father, Harold Roost in 2002. He was also preceded by his brother Duane Roost in 2016.
A Celebration of Warren’s Life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at University United Methodist Church on Harrison Road in East Lansing, MI at 1:00 pm with light refreshments following the Celebration.
