Eric's obituary

Ward "Eric" Leggitt, 66, passed away on March 10, 2026, in Ft. Myers, Florida. Born on October 2, 1959, in Lawrenceville, Illinois, Eric lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and adventure.

Eric graduated from Robinson High School in 1977 and went on to earn his BA from Midwestern State University in 1981. His professional journey began shortly thereafter when he joined Kemper CPA Group. At just 24 years old, Eric became a partner at the firm in 1983. In 1991, he took over as the partner in charge of the Terre Haute office and continued to lead with distinction until his retirement after an impressive 30-year career.

Before embarking on his professional path, Eric pursued his love of baseball with remarkable success. Drafted by the Montreal Expos, he played as an outfielder for two years in the minor leagues, traveling across northern U.S. and Canada while showcasing his athletic talent.

Music was another cornerstone of his life; he enjoyed going to concerts and festivals and played guitar himself. A lover of travel and exploration, Eric found joy in visiting the Caribbean and Europe, cruising to new destinations, and spending time at the beach.

Eric is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Sonia Leggitt; his stepdaughter Nikki Rhodenbeck; his furbaby Marley; his mother Carolyn S. Leggitt; and his brother Jim Leggitt. He was predeceased by his father Wally Leggitt and sister-in-law Debbie Leggitt.

Eric's memory will live on through those who knew him best and loved him most. May his legacy bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to share in his remarkable journey through life.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on March 27, 2026, from 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM at Free Methodist Church 302 S Robb St. Robinson IL Reminder-the service starts at 3 pm Illinois time/4 pm Indiana time.
