My mother suffered from early onset dementia and over the last several years it slowly took away her mind. Within the last year the decline rate increased dramatically but we did not realize it was going to take her anytime soon. Friends and family have no idea the hardships placed on caregivers of dementia patients. It is not only physically demanding, it is downright heartbreaking and emotionally draining to watch the person you have always known and love change right before your eyes. To have outsiders make assumptions based on things they know nothing about. She was a strong woman throughout this terrible disease. She was always independent and hated having to rely on others for things she used to be able to do so easily. After covering expenses, all remaining funds donated would be used to help spread awareness of Dementia and provide caregivers with the help they need for their loved one, the help that we were not able to get because of the great financial cost.
