From my brother in law  Brad Ottesen,

Eric, deepest sympathies on your mom’s passing. Wanida was a wonderful woman and a kind, lively spirit. She made me feel like family from the first time I met her. She will be missed! ❤️

From my friend David Aldacushion:

Eric,

I'm so sad to hear about your mother. I enjoyed seeing that picture of your Mom from your Dad's birthday party last year. It brought back so many memories of fun times at your house and family from all those years ago.

Your mom was always so nice to me and I could tell that she really loved and appreciated you.

I have one memory of her that has stayed with me for some reason, but I think about it a lot:

I remember once we were rough housing. I think I had just played a joke on you with your computer. You tackled me and I'm sure we were making a lot of noise. But your mom never got mad at us. Instead I remember looking over at your door as you were jumping on me and I saw your Mom peeking in with a big smile on her face. She always had a big smile. But I can still vividly picture her peeking in and watching us.

As a parent of an only child, I think I understand it now. I love to see my son horsing around and being a kid with his friends. So I know how delighted and loving your mom felt (after she verified that we weren't killing each other, of course).

I hope that helps a little. My Dad passed away a couple years ago and I still treasure all the nice things people said about him. I'm sure it will be the same for you her.

You had a great mom. I'm sorry she is gone and I'm thankful that I got to know her.

Hugs to you and your family.

Wanida was a very fine person and a blessing in the lives of Butch, Eric, Fay, and her grandchildren.  You all know how fortunate you were to have had her in your lives, as I too felt in being with her, Butch and Eric again recently.  Herewith my condolences and sympathy.

In Memory of Wanida Amundson – by Edward Wan. We knew Wanida because my late wife, Ping Wan’s niece, Fay Cheung, is married to Wanida’s son, Eric Amundson. When we first met Wanida and Butch Amundson, we were immediately attracted by their kindness and loving personalities. Over nearly two decades, our two families have been intertwined in so many ways and we have shared the ups and downs of our lives. We always enjoyed our combined family gatherings during the holidays, especially during Thanksgiving and New Year's. She treated us just like extension of her own family. Wanida was a very capable and multi-talented woman. We admired her ability to adopt different cultures from the East and West. She enjoyed teaching the Thai language at the US State Department. Her love of her native country (Thailand) and her continuing interest in learning new knowledge and technologies was amazing. She enjoyed the best that life could provide including traveling, attending cultural events, and gardening. She seemed to have magical hands that could grow beautiful flowers and green plants. She was a very creative chef and was often motivated to learn new cooking skills in order to prepare better foods. My son, Benjamin and my daughter, Elaine still vividly remember various tasty dishes and wonderful desserts that she created. Her unselfish love and devotion towards her son, Eric, husband, Butch, her grandson Ethan and her granddaughter Clara were second to none. Wanida was also very close to her three sisters in Thailand. We will all miss her smile, kindness, generosity and most importantly, her love and unwavering support towards her friends and family.
Dear Butch, Eric and Family,
we were very sad to hear about Wanidas passing. All of us felt fortunate to have you as our neighbors when we lived in Sharon Court. Wanida was always kind and welcoming to us and she helped the kids with improving their English skills. Our deep condolences Marion, Josef, Julia, Johannes and Oliver.
I can speak English because of her. ขอให้อาจารย์ไปสู่สุขคติในสัมปรายภพครับ
