Wanda's obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the transition of life of our Mother, Wanda Jean Bates.
Wanda became a resident of Minden, Louisiana (Claiborne Parish) in July 2022. She had a desire to move back to her home state. She transitioned, at home, at the residence of her Daughter and Son-In-Love, Matthew and Shermona Mack, on Sunday, April 30, 2023.
Wanda was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on December 24, 1946. She was blessed with 76 young years of life.
She is survived by her Daughters; Shermona Bates- Mack (Minden, Louisiana) and Zaneta Bates, Grandchildren; Shaela Gray (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), Andrea Gray (Dallas-Forth Worth, Texas), Shane Gray (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), Nicole Furman (Jonestown, Pennsylvania), and Lilliana Mack (Minden, Louisiana), Brother, Roy Jones (Baker, Louisiana) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by her Parents; Joesph Bates and Nettie Singleton, Daughters; Tamara “La Wan” Wood and Vanessa Wood Gray, Brother, Tyrone Bates and Sister, Deborah Reaves.
Wanda is a graduate of East High School and attended Bryant and Stratton Business College inBuffalo, New York. During her life she enjoyed being a Fashion Model, Law Secretary, Pre-School Teacher and Nursing Home Office Assistant. Wanda retired from First Student (Darby, Pennsylvania), as a Bus Driver for Special Needs Students.
Wanda enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, gardening, cooking, sewing, crafts and animals. Wanda loved spending time with family and friends especially with good food!
A Memorial Service for Wanda will be announced at a later date.
