Walton “Colonel Wally” Ginn Brooks of Lawrenceville, GA, 73, beloved husband and father, passed away on March 20, 2023, with his wife and children lovingly by his side in his home after an extended illness. He was born in Atlanta, GA to the late Ben Sorrells Brooks and Frances Ginn Brooks.

Walton is survived by his wife of 44 years, Len, and his sons Jimmy, Christopher, Patrick, and Nicholas.

His greatest joys in life were his family, who he loved spending time with, and serving others through his life’s work in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office. Wally started his storied career in law enforcement at 18 with the Georgia State Patrol until he retired in 2000 as a Special Agent in Charge with the GBI. Following his retirement from the GBI he worked in land development with his dear cousin JD Brooks and helped many families obtain their dreams of home ownership. Throughout his tenure, he could never resist the desire to be in law enforcement, so he joined the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office as an investigator in 2009 until his final retirement in 2014.

He spent the remaining years of his life loving his family and being a mentor to young police officers and all that came his way.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Monday, April 3, 2023, starting at 10:00am at North Metro Baptist Church – 1026 North Peachtree Rd NE, Lawrenceville, GA 30043.
