Walter's obituary

Walter David Wasserman passed away on April 17, 2014 at the age of 84. Walter was born on December 30, 1929 in Vienna, Austria. A Holocaust survivor, a post World War ll immigrant to the United States (Brooklyn, NY and then Forest Hills, NY) who attended City College in Manhattan with full immersion into a language that was not his own, these were challenges to conquer, and conquer he did. A highly intelligent man with a strong work ethic and a determination to succeed, Walter became a respected CPA along with possessing a book smartness that never ceased to amaze. He was sociable and highly regarded by all whom he encountered.

Walter had a glow in his eyes when he had the opportunity to converse with his two grandchildren, Bryan and Lori. He clearly loved them right from the start however he related best to them when they were a bit older. Walter also added the traditional Jewish flavor to the holiday times. His daughter (and only child), Diane became in charge of pulling out the scriptural content and meaning, and Walter brought the yarmulkes for the boys and men, and added in the Hebrew. The mix together was precious.

Scripture testifies, G-d is our perfect, just, good, faithful, holy rock and shield. A few of the many Bible Scriptures that remind us of that are Deuteronomy 32:4, 2 Samuel 22:31, and 1 Chronicles 16:34. Powerful for it reinforces what living life here on earth shows us, we cannot successfully walk this walk alone, yet we do not have to. There is a firm, unchangeable foundation on which to stand, there is a shield that goes before us and protects us, and our strength and life is found in G-d, not in ourselves.

In loving memory of Walter D. Wasserman, a devoted husband to Ursula, his wife of 48 years; father to their only child, Diane Greenblatt; father-in-law to Diane's husband, Barry; and grandfather to their children, Bryan and Lori.
