Walter's obituary

Walter Dilts Temple Jr. died on June 29, 2017 at the age of 94. He died quietly with family surrounding him. He was born in Dennison, OH. on February 16, 1923. His family moved to New Jersey where he attended high school. He served in World War II for the U.S. Army Ordnance Dept. He graduated with a Mechanical Engineering Degree from Steven's Institute of Technology in New Jersey. He was the Vice President of Wholesale Fuel Distributor for Wyatt Oil Inc. in New Haven, CT. He was appointed by the governor of Connecticut to serve as the "founding chairman of the first organized voluntary harbor oil spill clean- up co-operative" in the USA. This was for the New Haven harbor primarily. He was the President of the Baptist Laymen of Connecticut and the Stamford Ct. based United Church Of Christ Residences Inc. This organization built Pilgrim Towers in Stamford, CT while he was the president. He was a Rotarian since 1969 and served most recently as director of the International Service for the Marco Island Florida Rotary Club. He served as an independent contractor for the Professional Realty Consultants' Marco Island (Florida). In his later years he served with the Gideon Bible Society in Ashford, CT. He leaves behind:
*His youngest Daughter: Constance Myrn(Connie)Temple Bartholomew Harris Holder
* His 5 grandchildren(in order of birth): Kirsten Jean McIntier Marsh Faitsch LaBranche(Ashford, CT), Aaron Bartholomew(Sharjah, UAE), Amber Sky Harris(Ithaca,NY), Ada Elizabeth Marsh Haskins(Endicott, NY), and Alexander Roland Marsh(Pennsylvania)
* His 7 great-grandchildren(in order of birth): Maegan Faitsch(Guilford, CT), Daniel Faitsch(Pottersville, NY), Benjamin Faitsch(Ashford, CT), Nathaniel LaBranche(Ashford, CT), Eva Bartholomew(UAE), Chloe Bartholomew(UAE), and Juliette Joy Bartholomew.(UAE)
* His Niece & Nephew(in order of birth) Steven E. Temple(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Melinda Temple Decker(Fernandina Beach, FL)

His wife, Roberta Ada McNulty Temple, died before him in 1998. His eldest child, Prudence Anne Temple McIntier Marsh, died just 3 months before him in April 2017. His younger brother, Charles Temple died before him. (as did his sister-in-law: Elizabeth Temple.) His youngest nephew, Christopher Temple also died (very tragically) before him. He was always rather surprised that he outlived so many of his relatives.

He lived his later years consciously as a: "Life In Christ". He would have told you that he came to his "deeper" Christian life because of the efforts of his wife, Roberta("Bobbie").

His outside interests, hobbies & talents included:
Playing the trombone(rather well), Singing in the church choir (baritone), Singing in a Barbershop Quartet, Boy Scout troop leader, Deacon at the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich, CT ., Sailing (we owned a 1936 Herreshoff Sloop called "The Quest"), Square Dancing, Doing "The Lindy Hop" with my mother & their World War II friends (they had rotating "house parties" where the rugs would come up and the dancing would take over)and fixing just about anything. He was the best guy at completing the "Honey Do" lists. I'm sure I left out some stuff. I'll come back when I remember .
