Ed's obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Walter "Ed" Sanders, Jr., lovingly known as Ed, who was called to the heavenly abode on June 10, 2024. Born on September 12, 1955, Ed lived a full and meaningful life, guided by the Golden Rule - "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Ed was a man of few words, preferring to let his actions speak louder than his voice. He was a private person, imbued with an innate kindness and unmatched generosity that touched the lives of many. Ed's philosophy of life was simple yet profound. He treated everyone around him with respect and fairness, a trait that became his legacy and a lesson for us all.
Ed was the beloved husband of Kathy Sanders, who will miss him more than anyone. His parents, Dr. Walter Sanders, Sr., and Opal Sanders, along with his brother, Mark Sanders, preceded him in death. Ed's departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit continues to live on in the hearts of those he cherished and who cherished him.
Ed was a man of routine and preferred simple pleasures of life. One such joy was our daily phone conversations. Although we were separated by distance, these conversations strengthened our bond and made us feel closer. This precious ritual is deeply missed, and his absence leaves a profound void.
Ed's life was a testament to the fact that one does not need grand gestures to make a difference but consistent, small acts of kindness. His legacy of helping others, being kind, and generous will continue to inspire us all. He will be greatly missed, especially by those who were fortunate enough to call him a friend.
Ed's life was well lived - rich in love, noble in deeds, and inspiring in legacy. Although Ed is no longer with us, his values will continue to guide us, and his memory will always warm our hearts. Rest in Peace, precious Ed.
I want to thank all of the staff at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC while he was under their care, especially in the ICU. Your kindness and care for him in his last hours of life means so very much to me.
