I was looking for old friends and was sad to come across this memorial nearly a year after Butch’s passing. Of course, I couldn’t call him Butch when I knew him. He was Mr. Manigold. When asked who my favorite teachers were when I was in school, he rates in the top ten. I met him when I was a freshman at Reedsport (OR) high school in the fall of 1972. I was walking down the hall and Butch said, you’d make a good Mr. Duffy. This was a character in the upcoming production of Meet Me in St. Louis. I auditioned for the part and got it. Thus began my life long passion for the theater. I was involved in every production during my four years except for one. I was the stage manager for I Never Saw Another Butterfly, in which a very young Mynette had a role.
I’m so sorry for your loss and share your grief as you near the anniversary of his passing. May you find comfort as you share memories of his life.
