Dick's obituary

In loving memory of Walter Richard (Dick) Grunewald Jr., who was called home on November 5, 2024, in Bruce, WI. He was 85 years old.

Walter is survived by his children, Michael Grunewald (Brenda) of Martinsburg, WV; David Grunewald (Lori Walters) of Peshtigo, WI; Kenneth Grunewald (Kimberley) of Bruce, WI; Steven Grunewald (Janel) of Friendship, WI; and Dayna Grunewald (Kyle Whettam) of TN.

His legacy also includes his grandchildren, Alicia Cullop (Nicklas), Christopher Grunewald (Allie), Jessica Sokolowski (Mark), Kayla Steiner (Brandon), Jared Moser-Grunewald (Lillian), Paul Schloesser (Alicia), Austin Grunewald, Victoria Schmidt (Mark), and Joseph Whettam.

Dick was also blessed with several great-grandchildren, Trinity, Lillian, Charlotte, Ezra, Owen,  Avery, Matthew, Alayna, Emery, Eli, Travis, and Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude (Trudy), father, Walter Richard Grunewald Sr., and mother, Frances Grunewald.

Dick was born on November 19, 1938 in Elkhorn, WI. He graduated from East Troy High School. He was employed and retired after 37 years at Dresser Industries in Waukesha, WI. He instilled a passionate work ethic in his children, guiding and encouraging them to pursue their dreams.

Dick was generous with his time, talent, and treasures. Among our greatest collective memories of our father is the time spent camping at Jellystone Park in Ft. Atkinson, WI - or around any campfire - or even a beach. He could peacefully stare at the flames or the waves for hours on end, sharing stories and laughs.

He also enjoyed yard work - whether it was his own or helping one of his children with theirs. He was a fond collector of model cars and enjoyed building model railroads. Among his pleasures was time spent working the food pantry for St. Mary's Catholic Church in Palmyra, WI.

We will miss your sense of humor, your love of family,  and your zest for life.
