Walter's obituary

Walter Ellsworth Denny III died on August 6, 2019, two days short of his 84th birthday. A direct descendant of the Denny and Boren families that founded the city of Seattle, he spent his last 20 years living in Suquamish, Washington in a home overlooking the sound, the water always gave him a feeling of peace.
Walt was an athlete, educator, poker player, story teller and adventurer. He loved his 5 kids (Cary, Steve, Sam, Chantele and Lisa) his son in laws (Andy, Angelo, Greg and Bob) his daughter in law (Amy), his 9 grandchildren, his 5 great grandchildren and his nephew (Alex). He also loved a few women, a good joke, a sunrise looking at Mt. Rainier, a cup of coffee anytime and a great meal. Walt was a friend of Bill W. for the past 30 years. He was a deeply spiritual man, but not religious, he always felt communications with God should be a one on one thing. He wanted things to be RIGHT with his family and friends, he worked hard over those 30 years mending relationships that he felt were damaged due to alcohol earlier in his life. He ended each conversation or phone call with the words “did I tell you I love you today?”.
Walt is deeply loved and will be sorely missed, his laugh, his whistling and his made up words we call
“Walt-isms”.
He is preceded in death by his father, Walter Ellsworth Denny, Jr., his mother, Mary Ernestine (Mahoney) Denny, and his sister, Leora (Denny) Foster.
A small memorial will be held February 15, 2020 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Sully’s Bar and Bistro in Squamish, Washington.
