Jared's obituary
Walter, better known as Jared, was born on July 6, 1957, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Richard and Joan Bernstein. His father, Richard, who was completing his residency at the very same hospital, was fortunate enough to be there to welcome his first-born son into the world.
Jared moved to the Florida Keys in the 1970s. Many knew him for his work as a professional plastering contractor. However, plastering was only one of the numerous skills he possessed. Among his talents and passions were playing the guitar, surfing, boating, and fishing. Jared loved the outdoors, especially the sea. For a time, he invested in this love through commercial lobster fishing but soon returned to plastering, where he continued to work until his final days.
To know Jared was to know that among the many qualities he had as a person, he was first and foremost a loving, caring man. Often, he did not know how to express himself in the best of ways, but those close to him understood underneath the hard exterior was a big teddy bear. If you asked for help, he would grumble but never hesitate to provide. These qualities he has instilled into his family and, with tremendous honor, we will continue his legacy of integrity and generosity.
Walter is survived by his brothers, Adam Bernstein and George Dordoni, his father, A. Richard Bernstein, and his sons, William Bernstein, Jared Bernstein, and Donovan Hassen.
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, the family will not be holding a funeral service. They do, however, welcome thoughts, memories, and pictures.
