Walter A. Williams, age 61, of Columbia, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Vanderbilt Medical Center after a difficult post-operative hospitalization. He was born in Rockford, IL, on April 11, 1963, the son of the late Fredrick and Dorothy Williams. Walt married his wife of twenty years, Susan, in Chicago on October 14, 2005. In his professional career, Walt has been employed as a truck driver for most of his life and recently retired. He was a member of St. Vincents catholic church. Survivors include his wife, Susan; two sons, George (Cindy) Williams and Simon (Monica) Williams; one stepdaughter, Kaitlin Kidd; grandchildren, Nicole, Oakley, Daniel, Jacob, and Madison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Williams.
Walt lived a life full of integrity, kindness, and compassion. Whether through his professional accomplishments, his deep involvement in the community, or his quiet acts of love at home, he consistently demonstrated the values that made him so special—honesty, loyalty, and a deep sense of responsibility. He had a heart that was always open to others, and his love for his family was boundless. Walt enjoyed gardening, reading, and especially grilling for the family, as well as assisting his wife in canning produce. Walt’s legacy of love, empathy, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Per Walt’s wishes, life will be celebrated in the Summer of 2025. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the kind and caring staff at Vanderbilt Medical Center and to all those who came to show support for Walt in his final days.
