Waights's obituary

Waights Gibbs Henry IV

September 16, 1967 - February 24,  2024

Waights passed away unexpectedly on February 25th, and was welcomed by the Lord with open arms.

Waights was preceded in death by his father Waights G. Henry III. He is survived by his wife Lisa Henry, daughter Kelsey Fischer, son Zach Felder, grandson Elijah Felder, mother Gay Henry, sister Mary Lark Wilson, brother-in-law Brent Wilson, brother Vance Henry and sister-in-law, Khrista Henry.

Waights was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 16th, 1967 to parents Gay and Waights Henry III. While he spent his early years in Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada, he grew up in Kennesaw, Georgia enjoying any adventure or outdoor activity a country boy could find.

He was always a competitive athlete; from his clear talent for water skiing, (slalom was his favorite), to his fearless ability to fly down a snowy mountain. As a young man Waights was an avid deer hunter, and once shot four deer in a single hunt, with only three shots. He was a varsity soccer player and graduate of North Cobb High School. He also played soccer for Emory at Oxford, and graduated with a degree in Anthropology from Emory University, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

After earning his degree, Waights moved to Dallas to begin his professional career. It was there that he met his wife Lisa, and his life quickly included her two young children, Zach and Kelsey. After moving to Austin in 2000, Waights and Lisa officially married on April 21, 2001 in Dripping Springs, Texas. They lived a busy and fun-filled life that included sporting events, outdoor hikes, camping, dance and voice recitals, floating down Texas rivers, and traveling whenever possible.

Waights spent the final years of his life sharing his love for scuba diving with Lisa. Together they have traveled the world from land to sea. He was a passionate fan of Formula 1, college football, outdoor grilling, and spent countless hours boating on Lake Travis. Waights loved entertaining friends and family. It brought him tremendous joy.

He was an amazing and very proud Papa to his grandson, Eli, and loved sharing in fun adventures alongside him, including riding every roller coaster at Six Flags. He taught him how to kneeboard this past summer, and instilled confidence in him every step of the way.

Waights will always be remembered for his adventurous nature, childlike spirit, and kind soul.

He was faithful in leading his family in prayer. He took the time before every meal to express his most heartfelt thoughts. He would often bring himself to tears sharing his pride for his family and hopes for everyone around him. His very personal faith in the Lord was unwavering, and his soul is now truly at peaceful rest in His arms.

A Remembrance of Life will be held in Waights’ honor:
