2023, Port Moody, BC, Canada

When we moved to Pt.Moody, both kids joined the Panthers. My youngest,  Georgia had just competed in her first season with the Wildcats in Burnaby. The Wildcats are an all female league,  which Georgia quickly found her place. We intended to register her with the Predators,  an all female league in Coquitlam. However,  as a Wildcat we had some pretty competitive games with the Predators and Georgia grew to dislike them, as you would a hated rival,  and refused to play for them....(yep)

I said " Georgia, Port Moody doesn't have a girls league, its a smaller city. You'll have to play with the boys."

She looked at me with widened eyes and said " ya, I'll play with the stinky boys"

I was a bit apprehensive and nervous about tryouts and how'd she do. I wasnt coaching her the first year we moved but was pretty impressed with how many parents volunteered. One of those parents was Wade. I didn't know about his playing history, or any of his credentials but he seemed like really nice a genuine guy. One of the days after an early season ice time,  Wade came over and introduced himself and started telling me how good Georgia was at hockey. He asked about where she played and stuff like that. But I remembered mostly how much his eyes lit up while he smiled as he complimented her as a girl and playing with the boys.

Last season when Wade had to step down as our head coach, it  was disappointing for sure but we understood why. It was always a happy surprise to see coach Wade at our U9 games watching his oldest Ava play and cheering us on. The big highlight for me was our last game of the season and the big game winning goal in the dying seconds of the 3rd period!!.after the  game I was honored to award the game MVP( deservedly so)  to Ava and she got to share that moment with Coach Wade and family and those of us there that day.

I was so happy to be there and will never forget that memory.

wade was a inspiration to me as I suffered a brain injury after being assaulted 17 years ago but meeting wade and speaking to him about my brain injury and how it made me feel he helped to show me there's more to life than being sad and angry but to use my brain injury to help educate others.

I'm truly sorry to hear about Wade's passing.

In reflecting on the time I spent with Colleen Macleod and family when the the three boys were very young , where I met his Mom Colleen in Salt Lake City for two years , originally.

I am filled with a mix of sorrow and gratitude. Knowing Wade from such a young age, through our shared hockey community, allowed me to witness his remarkable spirit and kindness. He was not just a passionate player on the ice; he embodied the essence of what it means to be a loving and caring person off the rink as well.

As I watched Wade's battle with brain cancer was one of immense courage, and he faced each challenge with a strength that inspired everyone around him. His love for his family shone brightly, a testament to the deep bonds he nurtured with those he cherished. It’s heartbreaking to lose someone so special, and my heart goes out to his family during this difficult time.

Wade will always be remembered for his warmth, his laughter, and the indelible mark he left on our lives. Please accept my deepest condolences to the family . His legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
