Vonnie Ray Coen passed away on July 20, 2021 at the age of 55. Vonnie was born in Akron, Ohio, but spent much of his youth going back and forth between the Buckeye State and South Florida. It was there that he fell in love with fishing and became a lifelong Florida Dolphins fan. In 1992, Hurricane Andrew struck Homestead, Florida, as a category 5, and while many residents evacuated, Vonnie stayed behind, casting a line from the banks of an overflowing canal and filling his mother's bathtub with catfish even as the storm rolled in; his fearlessness and love of the fishing pole ran that deep. He had a laugh that would shake your organs, a smile that eclipsed his face, and a sharp, witty sense of humor that would make you cringe and cackle at the same time. He was far from a perfect man, but he was loved deeply by many and will be sorely missed. He was preceded by his mother, Aletha, older brother Gary, and his aunt Jackie. He is survived by his wife, daughter, seven siblings, and lots of nieces and nephews who will carry on his memory.
