Vivian Lavarn Williams lived a life of love, dedication, and generosity. She was born on February 27, 1949, in St. Augustine, Florida, to Council and Martha Williams, and throughout her life, she embodied the qualities of compassion and selflessness. She was Vivian or Viv to the world, but she was Sis or Aunt Sis to her family. Vivian was the second oldest of 8 children, and her commitment to her family extended to her role as a beloved sister, aunt, and grandmother. Though she was born in Florida, she spent most of her life in Philadelphia, PA, where she had her only child, Brandon A. Vaughan, who was the love of her life.
Vivian’s professional journey was marked by hard work and determination. After completing her education at William Penn High School for Girls, Vivian embarked on a career at Bell Telephone Company, where she devoted herself until retirement. Her passion for education led her back to school, graduating from Pierce College and eventually transitioning to a fulfilling career as a teacher, leaving a lasting impact on the young minds she nurtured.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Vivian was a gifted seamstress whose talents brought beauty and joy to the lives of many. Her creations, from intricate garments to cherished keepsakes, reflected her creativity and skill. Vivian’s passion for sewing was a testament to her ability to infuse love and care into everything she touched.
Vivian will always be remembered for her love of driving. When all her siblings lived under one roof, she would often load up her car and go on long rides. Whether it was countless trips around the city or down to Florida, she was always ready for the ride. This cherished tradition continued with her son, nieces, and nephews. Alongside her beloved mother, Martha, she would attend every family event, no matter the distance.
Vivian’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, and her commitment to the Lord was a source of great strength and joy. Vivian was a loved and devoted member of Bethesda Christian Fellowship Church. Her participation in her small group reflected her deep spiritual connection and her desire to share her faith with others. She loved to snack and reflect on the love of Jesus with the group.
Vivian will be remembered by her loving family. She is survived by her son, Brandon A. Vaughan, her grandson, Gabriel A. Vaughan, and her daughter-in-love, Messay (Juni) Vaughan. She also leaves behind her sisters, Jean and Barbara, and her brothers, Roger, Reggie, and Gregory. Vivian has joined her beloved mother, Martha, her father, Council, her brothers Rudolph (Harry) and Marvin, and her brother-in-law, Mitchell Ray Battle in heaven. She was also reunited with her niece, Kenya Holley, and nephew, Gregory Jamar Williams.
As Vivian’s journey on this earth has come to a close, her legacy of love, compassion, and strength lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
